Live media architectures
Hi :)
Why are most if not all live CD's or DVD's targeted for 32 bits architectures... ? sure that in the begining, 64 bits CPUs were rare, but in current days most sold computers are 64 bits... so why is that...?! |
The main reason I think is backward compatibility. You can run a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit computer but not vice versa.
There also seems to some issued with some 32 bit applications not porting properly to 64 bit. And then we have the stupid things like flash and (jdk too I think) that do not run on 64 bit pcs. Hope this helps. |

64 bit software usually takes up more disk space. That's no big worry on hard disk installs, but is a concern on live CDs/DVDs.
