great read. i like what i see in the trends and am glad i am starting to learn more and more about linux as i attempt to migrate from the windows enviroment into the linux one.

now if linux can just get more mainstreem in the gaming world linux would own windows.

I read an article a while back saying the killer Linux ap for gaming was likely to be the lowly live cd/dvd. It made perfect sense to me. The idea is EA (or any other game maker) could take Knoppix, add their libraries etc necessary for the game, and precompile the game onto the live DVD. With the kick-*** hardware support that Knoppix already provides, it would be platform-independent and not be dragged down by some lame (hear that Redmond) GUI sucking up all the resources behind the scenes. I can't wait.

that would be neet, but i could see that being a bit laggy for most system heavy games unless there was a way to copy the stuff to the HD if not perm. then for that game seassion. on some of the bigger games like the modern MMOs that take up 4G of HD space, i do not see this working so well.

A. i would not want to wait for that much data to be transfered to my HD every time i want to play.

B. trying to play a MMO or even a higher end FPS off a CD would just be to laggy.

idea might be to make that knoppix with game an install CD. meaning it creates the OS and installs, configures the game all at once. either creating a dual boot situation, or a frresh install of the new OS with the game configured nice and clean....
