Linux in the theater

Hey, I just watched Scary Movie 3, it was pretty funny if you like that kind of blunt humor.

Anyway, to cut to the chase, whenever there was a computer screen being shown, im pretty sure it was running Linux with the Bluecurve theme and Mozilla. I could be wrong and I dont have a DVD of it since it was just released.

Its cool to see that they are giving a little back to the linux community with some free "brainwash" advertising hehe

Yeah I thought I saw Mozilla running on one of the computers, not sure if it was Windows or Linux though.

Not sure if this is old news or not, but they also show linux/unix in the Matrix Reloaded. There is a scene where Trinity nmap scans a host looking for services and then runs an ssh exploit against it. Kind of cool. They have blown up picks and details at www.insecure.org [the nmap site].

The reason they use Linux is they don't have to get permision from microsoft. Cheaper, and more realisitic than those crappy UI's that know every feature the user every could want (Dilbert?) Haven't seen the movie yet, but heard it was funny.

Actually that scene used real commands and in fact actually used a real canned exploit against SSH. On the nmap site, they make a joke about how they should've patched their system, considering the exploit would be several hundred (thousand?) years old by then.

In the 'Matrix' it's 1999, so the patch wouldn't have come out yet.

Good point. Next time I watch it, I'll have to see if that scene occured in the Matrix or in the real world. That would be kind of funny if it was from inside the Matrix. I guess she could have made a bundle working for Symantec.

I saw a movie called "The first 20 million is always the hardest" and in several scenes, they seem to be using an old GNOME or KDE. I'm not sure which, but I think it's GNOME because the console window is labeled "Terminal" (in KDE, it's "Konsole")
