Just a thought for the masses

ok, Im pretty new to linux. Im looking for some help and I post here. Although I dont get alot of answers on here, I still post. But as with that Im looking for a irc chat room so I can get at hand help. The funny thing is that we I decided to switch over to linux it was because of the stability and the reviews from other users. With that said, I find it to be funny that years ago when linux to that fo "geek" status it was easier to get help. Fast forward to now..... Its taken a different turn. Ive seen alot of posts on here and yet I see endless phrases like "read a book I did". That might be so but there wouldnt be a need for a forum called Linuxquestions now would there be. Ive tried searching for a irc room so I can get some live help. I find a few and try to enter, but immediatly get booted and banned for whatever reason the person who runs the channel. Even though the channel says linuxhelp. Everyone on here and in linux forums everywhere, complain about microsoft this microsoft that, complain about closed source and OS monopoly. But if u stop and look at those that tell u to read a book or make comments about those that dont have linux understanding down, are doing the same as microsoft keeping the source closed. Open source is just that open, open to the people around us. All together we stride to make linux better and more avalible to the masses. Knowledge is power....... share.
Bash this as you may, but those who do dont understand the open source.

thank u for reading my rant.

Umm.. what was the point of this? He stated clearly in his post he went to that chatroom in IRC...

Kurt M. Weber 10-20-2003 03:57 PM

He said he went to a channel called linuxhelp, but he didn't specify what network. It might not have been the one on freenode (his description certainly doesn't sound like it).

Well I would assume he meant the one on freenode as its the most popular but still your post really is unconstructive.. what are you trying to point out by giving him a IRC channel when it seems that is why he is posting, complaining of such channels..

I really don't think it helps him out or answers his question.. etc.

Kurt M. Weber 10-20-2003 04:09 PM

Geez, I was trying to help the guy. He was complaining of problems finding an IRC channel where he could get help, and I was pointing him to one that I'm certain would be more than happy to help him.

And from my senses the member has already been there like he mentioned.. Most that I know of use the freenode.net network for IRC..

Kurt,

I would like for you when you respond to members posts to give details or better responses, your one liners and or the such aren't very constructive at times and you don't back your reasonings. It seems as if you like to argue and post your thoughts, etc for the non-Linux threads, why can't you do that when your genuinely trying to help someone with a real question?

Just a thought.

Kurt M. Weber 10-20-2003 04:40 PM

Yes, but the linuxhelp he described didn't sound at all like the linuxhelp on freenode that I know, thus my answer.

If someone asks for details, I give details. If not, I don't. I don't know what all details can be given when someone asks for an IRC channel to get help on, really.

Maybe a little explanation or since he didn't mention which network maybe ask him if he went to the one at irc.freenode.net ?? Learn to probe to get more details if you want to help others..

And quite frankly, I would rather you give details anyways as it limits the questions they may have later on down the road..
