It really depends on the market, location, skill set, etc. The company might set a lower than average pay scale if the task does not require any special skills and someone right out of college will be suitable.
I wouldnt count on to many new software jobs in the US for a while the way outsourcing has taken off and the way that american politicians say one thing and do another and american corporations selling out thier workers by hiring much cheaper labor in other countries and stabbing us all in the back and still wanting us to buy their products. BASTARDS!!!!!!
Just as well, software developers have always been treated as grunts: low salaries for putting in lots of overtime. Let them do the work in China. Hope upper management can read Mandarin. Guess they'll have to take time off from playing golf to learn it.
