Question JAL123 crash in 1985

It made me sad to watch the video, and I also read this

A lot of people did survive the crash, but many of their lives ended because of hypothermia.

Why? Why would hypothermia happen in a plane crash?

crash site in mountains, about 5000 feet - cooler temps
night time - cooler temps
survivors injured and in shock, unable to help themselves
