John :D

p.s. Oh and happy new year!

Whitehat 12-25-2003 06:58 PM

It's not over fool!

I got a good 4 hours left. Plus......I celebrate it for days.

We put the tree up 2 weeks ago and will leave it up until like January 6th

:D

Hannukah isn't over yet :p . It will be over tomorrow, though. But like Whitehat said before, try to stretch out the holidays so you remember the memories for a longer time ;)

and, oh yes, happy new year to you ,too

Regards,
Jerry

Kwanzaa is not over yet either. We celebrate it for a couple weeks more than most do.

bigjohn 12-25-2003 07:43 PM

nope, It was officially over when I posted the thread.

Christmas day is the same as any other day i.e. 24 hours long. And I'd like to point out that as WE invented time and latitudes and shit like that, I've only got to drive about 15 miles along the coast road and I'd be sitting on top of zero degree's i.e. the greenwich meridian.

So anyone further east has already finished crimbo, and all you lot west are playing catch up.

Besides, even during christmas day, it's still 364 shopping days till christmas (just to be petty):D.

Enjoy your new year celebrations (if any).

regards

John

2004 is a leap year, which means an extra day in February. Therefore, there are 365 shopping days until Christmas 2004.

oh my God - I'm seriously getting stupider by the hour - how could I forget that?

. thanx, Steve. :)

Whoo Hooo!! someone got it:D

bigjohn 12-26-2003 09:17 PM

Well Nick, that just gives you the extra day to make sure that you've done all the crimbo shopping stuff :)

Mind you, I've just finished my first "post crimbo milk run" (as in the milk that I deliver in my truck - usually about 26 or so tonnes at a time - and believe it or not, they're putting out the easter egg displays already)

Aaaargh - Easter Eggs already :(

This really annoys me, Christmas decs up on September and Easter Eggs in December. Yes, I know that the shops want our money (and have to have it to survive) but anyone who buys eggs now is going to have unhappy recipients in March/April - chocolate tastes horrible after that long a time.

And retailers wonder why we think they are cynical. :D

whansard 12-27-2003 03:36 AM

i want a bunch of nasty royal navy sailor slang to yell at people for
new years. maybe big john could help me out.

bigjohn 12-27-2003 08:35 PM

I'll dig my book out and see what I can come up with.

Yo ho ho etc etc :D

John

Not necessarily. The reason they come out with that stuff now is out of the hope that you'll buy the candy (and people generally buy stuff they like), get tired of staring at it after a couple weeks and devour it, then have to buy more. The earlier it's out, the more times this can happen, potentially doubling or tripling their profit. Same reason you see halloween stuff out so early in the year. Especially halloween, because of the lag in "gift" holidays over the summer.

At the same time, I'd think Valentine's day would be the stuff you'd see now.

titanium_geek 12-29-2003 06:15 PM

valentines day is not that emphasised here.
There's not the comercialism here either.

I'm one of the lucky ones, I can legally host my own private fireworks show.
GET READY FOR THE BIG BANGS!

have a happy 2004 :)

Nah - we tend to see Valentine's Day stuff about a fortnight before the event. All those sickly sweet teddy bears, yuk. Frankly, if I gave my g/f one of those, you'd next hear about me in conjunction with the following words "....and the badly mutilated body was found in a ditch."

My g/f hates Valentine's Day and so, luckily, I don't have to bother. :D

Dewar 12-29-2003 06:27 PM

My friends and I have (well had) an apt name for Valentine's day....

Singles Awareness Day

The man just wants you to feel bad so you'll buy all that chocolate to soothe the depression. Just remember....

Girls are no substitute for a playstation. ;)
