Is my CPU replaceable/upgradeable (not Linux-specific)
I'm trying to answer this question half for curiosity and half for practical purposes. I'm trying to figure out if the CPU in my HP Pavilion dv8110us notebook can be replaced like a destkop CPU can be, or if it's permanently attached to the motherboard like many notebook PCs are.
I've replaced other laptop CPUs, so I wouldn't see why this model would be any different. Taking a laptop apart is a bit different than a desktop. Everything is so tightly packed and smaller, flatter, thinner than normal.
** Be aware that they require 'mobile' processors, not a standard desktop processor because of the power requirements. **
Go to Hp's web site and drill down through support for the "maintenance and service guide" for the system (they publish it for the business line so I assume they do for the home line as well) and it will list app the processors that were tested for the board and replacement instructions.
However, remember that unless your compiling things all day long your not going to see much difference from the faster cpu. I would max out the ram and get a faster hard disk first.
