Is a war between the USA and North Korea inevitable

It's hard to tell with the fake news as trump calls it. What about the neighboring countries of Asia are they doing anything to stop Kim Jong Un? Must we the United States, do everything?

enorbet 05-01-2017 01:37 AM

Please tell me why you think the US should be concerned beyond a watchful eye if those actually within any manner of military range are only moderately concerned?

ondoho 05-01-2017 02:07 AM

leaving out "North" from your thread title is a serious blunder imo.

anyhow, i just had a vision of Donald Trump and King Jong Un engaged in Sumo wrestling...

Because of the failed missile launch test. I think this was the second one that failed. I don't think he is aiming the missile tests at the USA but who can tell. In my opinion Kim Jong Un is not right in the head. And according to the fake news, it is claimed that Kim Jong Un will have a missile capable of reaching California by late this year or next. Lastly, Kim Jong Un is making promising of attacking the USA if he has to.

I apologized. I'm not good at political discussions. Just going with what I heard in the news. I will fix the title.

But isn't North Korea just doing the same thing he's done again and again in the last 25+ years?

What exactly has changed...?

They have some nuclear devices.

No.

The North Korean leader is a little boy in the hands of evil old men who established their glory (sic) and their power when a war was suspended in the 1950's. Then, some idiot gave his father missiles, which they still have ... although it appears to be questionable (if so, "smart move!") that they actually work.

Although the little boy's handlers might think it wonderful to "continue to attract attention on the world's stage," they are on a very-isolated section of a peninsula. And, the people who surround them have weapons that do work.

However – diplomacy is in order. The people of North Korea have lived in hell for much too long. Their grandparents remember when there was no "North vs. South" in their beautiful country. Maybe one day the unity of their nation can be restored ... peacefully.

And wouldn't it be nice if "the little boy" could live his life, too ...?

The Korean War ... if not on paper (yet) ... is long over. No one (else) is interested anymore.

Is a war between the USA and North Korea inevitable. NO it is not inevitable. What would make it inevitable? Then it can be a yes, but it does not have to be a yes.

sundialsvcs 05-01-2017 09:10 AM

And, honestly, when I look at that "little boy," I see someone who's caught up in a thing not of his making. I see the much-older men who are always standing behind him. And, I see a divided country that, fifty years later, is also caught up in a thing not of their making.

What good would it do, to bomb the hell out of those people, "again?" We must resolve the problems in Korea but we do not have to "go to war" to do it. China, America, and many other nations of the world need to point out – and implement – an honorable way for this bomb to be defused, and the Korean peninsula to be re-united if they will have it. If the people – who have been repressed for more than fifty years – will have it.

"War" would only give these evil leaders the perverted glory that they still dream of. But, there is another way.

The people who are trapped – along with the little boy – on the Northern half of the Korean Peninsula do not deserve to die in the "glorious (sic) war" that they have been cruelly taught since their youth "was inevitable."

"No, it isn't!" :tisk:

This is not the only thing that a united World community can do about this. Neither should we continue to ignore it and pretend that it's "okay." China, South Korea, everyone ... stop pointing fingers at each other and point your fingers collectively at where the problem lies.

Don't light a fuse: light a candle ... of hope. Then, make that "hope" come true for these people. Talk their leaders down from the ledge, then show the country that it doesn't have to "stare with envy at something it is not allowed to have."

"We Can Do It!™"

The North Koreans may be paranoid enough to fear an attack, hence their determination to have a nuclear defence, but I doubt that they are mad enough to launch a pre-emptive strike. They hit one US city: what happens next?

The problem is China. They will always give just enough support to keep the system from collapsing, for they naturally fear the prospect of having several million starving refugees pouring over the border. Unfortunately, they don't realise that the system will collapse eventually, and the longer it takes, the worse the mess they'll be faced with.

Viking559 05-01-2017 12:42 PM

If we do have a war with North Korea, at least the USA has the upper hand, we know how to launch missiles that can reach a target. whereas North Korea missiles have trouble leaving the country without blowing up in mid flight.:)

sundialsvcs 05-01-2017 12:51 PM

Think about it: would you have given "little boy," or any of his ancestors, nuclear(!) (or, any other kind of ...) missiles that actually worked? How would he know that he had an atomic bomb or not? You know these leaders are more-than "a few bricks short of a load." (And, apparently, stupid and impetuous enough to execute 15 or so of the "rocket scientists" they did have. So, now, they have 15 fewer people who know anything about how this sh*t actually works.)

Still, little boy and his cronies are going to have to be ... contained. As with any belligerent drunkard, you're gonna have to take away the car keys, and maybe lock him up overnight in an easily-showered  room where he can't hurt himself or anybody else.

But, you need to be selective. The people of North Korea are not the problem: they're the victims. They don't deserve to die: they deserve to get a chance to live. They don't represent the North Korean government, and that government doesn't represent them. They're simply pawns in the hands of madmen. The madmen care nothing if these people live or die, nor for how they live.

In fact, there might be considerably less than one hundred madmen who are "the problem." (And this might not include the "little boy.") Neutralize their power, remove them from the scene, and try to rescue the people who are trapped in the northern half of the Korean peninsula.

With determination, and force, you can accomplish far more than "war" would ever hope to do, and heal a fifty-year old gaping wound. But this is "everyone's" joint responsibility.

Smokey_justme 05-01-2017 02:20 PM

Sundial, I couldn't agree more... this should be handled in a diplomatic matter but everyone of the three powers are interested in controlling the land for a geostrategicaly buffer-point...

They spend 20 years developing a nuclear bomb and we're not sure they actuallu have one... but everyone wants to use this pretext to justify a war, which would otherwise be unnecessary... but really, they are not doing anything differently... the little boy issues the same threats has his father and grandfather did... just under a different form..

Unfortunately, while I don't think a war will start soon, I don't see any bright future for the people living there either :(
