Hello!
I've just found this on the net: http://www.imblaze.com/
If you look at screenshots: http://www.imblaze.com/screenshots.asp
you will see that it looks identical to Gaim...
On their website I was not able to find link to the source code. From what I know this is
the violation of GPL.
hit google for "imblaze gaim" currently the only result is a journal discussion including Rob Flynn. He clearly knows about it for a little while now....
download the binaries.
use any debugging tools that you can (ie strace, gdb...). the strings command can be pretty useful (mplayer people used this). compare the strings and code with that of compiled gaim binaries. if you find any similarities that seem specific to gaim (obviously dont point out that they both use the same executable structures) be sure to report them to gaim.
gaim is a pretty damn popular client, and im sure some people will be willing to help out to bring them down (if they are really stealing code and dont just have a similar GUI).
companies need to be taught that they can't just steal open-source code and make it propietary (at least with a protective license like the GPL). this is "piracy".
Nonsense. What self-respecting hippi would take Free, community-owned and -developed software and then close the source and add adware? They sound like a couple of illiterate boors trying to make a quick buck off the efforts of the Free Software Community.
Their website reads like a bad infomercial at 3:00 AM.
Seriously, go to the "Advertise" section of the website and just read through there.
It's littered with cliche statements like "And there's more..." "Double your traffic..." "We've done it again!"
lol, and most of the time you see propietary people say open source is evil, unsecure, unrielable, and is worse then propeitary stuff, i quess this prooves that some money makeing company likes open source, i wonder how theyll like a law suit?

Raze IMBlaze to the ground!
You seem to know a lot about hippyism. BIG EYE WINK.

I'm not a hippi: My hair's not long enough, and I bathe too often. If being a hippi were more than a trend that people followed because it was popular, I'd say that the hippi (i.e., liberal) ideals are a good thing and that the world could use a little more love and a lot less war.
I won't deny that my opinions are to the left of most other people's. Actually, I'm quite content with that.
I personally think imblaze is a great alternative for Windows users instead of Gaim, which also has a win32 version. Windows users are used with a lot of ads, close source, virus and spywares. Taking it away from them is like taking away part of the system (and I mean it, running adware and removing spywares may result in a unusable system, spywares are part of Windows today...). So, you all have to agree that free-open-clean-source won't fit Windows philosophy... IMBlaze is here to stay
