Imaging a Windows 7 installation
Hi all,
Because there is ONE application I need access to that runs under Windows and for which there's no advanced Linux equivalent (a SPICE simulator in case you were wondering) I'm obliged to keep a backup Windows image on hand for when those unavoidable times arise.
To cut a long story short: I just bought a replacement laptop that came with Windows 7 pre-installed. Gparted reveals it has two partitions on the hard drive, first, a 100MiB one described as "System Reserved" and a larger one of 298GiB which I'm guessing is the actual installation. They're both ntfs. There's a small amount of unusable space after this main partition and that's all. The first partition shows 24MiB used, the main partition shows 17.3GiB used.
What's the best method currently to backup this lot so it can be used when necessary for running the SPICE app? (Once I've done the imaging I'll be wiping the whole disk and linstalling Linux with a different partitioning scheme which will also then need to be imaged). Any suggestions?
Thanks,
cc.
