httpd

I have installed RedHat 6.2 and 7.3 on two different machines. My 6.2 version has no problem running httpd and running apache. On my 7.3 I start httpd the check it via "netstat -naupt" and it is not running. So I try "restart" and stopping fails and start says "ok" but it does not. What am I missing? I have looked at my basic configuration files, http.conf and some others and they look fine. Is there some security setting I don't know about?

PS. I am also having a problem getting my .htaccess file to work on my 6.2 but that is another question.

Thanks for any help,

Greg

httpd

The var/log/messages shows that it succeeded. But there is no process running and if I try to stop the service I get an error because it is not running. Can there be something configured in the ipchains(that I am not familiar with) that would keep my apache from running? When I initially installed There was a selection for secuirty and I let it default to medium level.

look at the files in /var/log/httpd/

it has to tell us why it not starting, most likely a config problem

Perfect! In the /var/log/httpd/error_log.1 stated that the port was already in use. So I went to the httpd.conf and looked to for duplicate "Listen port 80" and found a second one for https. I commented one out and it works fine.

Thanks,
