How to use a proxy in URL

Hi!

I read something about chaining proxies. Well, I don't wanna do that... but in that article they showed one could put the proxy into the url. Like this: http://12.241.123.211:8000/http://www.google.com

But thats didn't work for me. (FF1.0)

Does someone know if something like this is possible... to put the proxy into the url?

Thanks a lot!

I think what you said applies to cgi-proxies
for ex
http://anon.free.anonymizer.com/http://www.google.com
here the script parses the url fetches the pages and gives it to you .
you cannot use it for http proxies (though you can access the anonymizer proxy via a http_proxy)
