How to stop my ISP from caching LinuxQuestions.org pages?

This is a serious issue.

I have been reduced to logging into my account for every few seconds even though I browse with cookies enabled.

I have a dial-up connection which works fine -- none of these problems occur.

I also have a cable connection which gives me the following problems when browsing at this site:

1. I am not able to log in consistently. Whenever I log in and try to navigate, I get logged out when I visit certain links.

2. When I visit the forum, the wrong member name is shown at the 'last posted' column in the forum index.

3. Even when I manage to clear my own cache, the old pages are displayed (even to replied topics: for e.g. I see 4 replies but I am able to view only 2, showing that the page has not been updated to the latest version).

I think all these problems are related to the caching done by my ISP which makes me lose the session and also does not update the pages correctly. So how am I to solve this problem? I am using the dial-up connection only as a standby.

are there different isp's? you don't say who your isp is. Have you called them an asked them about the issues?

I will find out from the ISP whether he pre-caches pages when browsing.

But before doing that, I wanted to know whether there is anything I can do technically which might solve this problem.

There are, depending on the browser you use, cache settings that set how often a page is updated. In mozilla for instance it is located in the advanced-cache section of preferences.

If you have not played with these settings, it may be worth the effort. Setting it for every time the page is visited vs. whenever the page is out of date (which I believe is the default) may help.

In Mozilla Firefox there seems to be no options regarding Cache settings. Where do I set this option in Firefox?

Edit-Preferences-Privacy-Cache

Clear the cache, then set the cache size to 0 (default is 50000).

See what happens. This "should" keep Firefox from caching any pages at all. I just tried it and noticed no performance hit.
This, of course, does nothing about what your ISP might be doing. If you have Mozilla, try that too. At least you'll get more of an idea what might be going on (or not).

I went to:
Tools->Options->Privacy

In Mozilla Firefox there is an option to clear the cache. But no option to set the size of the cache anywhere.

Also even after clearing the cache, the old versions of the pages are loaded on subsequent visits. Does anybody else have this problem? I am clueless because this problem happens ONLY with LinuxQuestions.org and happens with ANY browser (including Internet Explorer).

click on the plus sign next to 'Cache' to expand the window....
You'll see the cache size edit box then.

Thanks. I've now set it to 0. I'll see whether there's any difference when I browse the pages.
