Funny -- especially since there was just a report released (funded by Microsoft) that said Windows production costs were cheaper than *nix by a wide margin.

(as seen on /.)

I've read before that UK was supporting open software real hard because Microsoft's licenses were too expensive there.

My own computer costs went up, since now i actually pay for my OS

but yeah, interesting article; and together with the specialized linux-based server software for schools that is recently released, this could mean a lot for linux in the education department.

Educational sites ALWAYS predict movement. If you remember back in the 70's when the net began to materialize, or when p2p began to materialize on campuses in the 90's....what do you have now? Profitable sales of per song music via sales of mp3's...and the internet is the largest thing on the planet. I2 is in use, and will become the next thing for the internet. Students started having pc's in their dorm room during my college stay, pretty soon networks began to emerge for gaming. Now online gaming is a huge moneymaker. Go onto a college campus today and you can see what the next 5-10 years of computing can be.
