Hey guys. I got a wireless card for my laptop and it works, however I need to know the WEP key. My brother, who set up this wireless network, is currently out of the country so I can't ask him to help.
My dad's laptop has windows XP and is configured to use our wireless network. So it has our WEP key. Though after looking through the windows XP wireless config thing, I could only get it to show me the k ey in ****s and not characters. A guy on another forum says that it is possible to get it to show you the key, though.
How do I get the WEP key from windows XP, so I can put it into my other laptop and therefore connect it to the wireless network?
Get the password to the wireless router, and then connect to the router with a lan cable from the laptop. You can then enter admin mode on the wireless router and see what the WEP key is set to. You might find some people suspicious at you wanting to see the WEP key on a client, instead of where you have physical access to the router. I assume that the router was set up with a password and is not still the default.

I can't get the password for the wireless router either, so I guess I'll just wait for my brother to come on MSN.
I found a way to get the WEP key from windows XP.
Just incase someone else finds themself in the same situation, here is how I did it.
I ran a tool called "wzcook". Here is the description from the site:
"WZCOOK can be used to recover WEP keys from XP's Wireless Zero Configuration utility."
It's not necessary to know what the WEP key is. It's simply stored in the Registry at "Software\Microsoft\WZCSVC\Parameters\Interfaces". So you can export the keys in this registry tree. Note: you have to do something else for handling WPA keys (but I'm not sure what).
