Actually, I believe because of Mr. Torvald's native dialect, he has a bit of an accent which causes the way he pronounces Linux to sound more like lee-nukes instead of an English lin-ucks...That's my observation anyhow...

I just try and remember his statement that it rhymes with cynics. Of course when I pronounce it that way some people invariably correct me.

it's all in the "i"

IMHO the most mispronounced part is the "i" in Linux, because almost everyone pronounces their vowels differently, depending on their native language, cuture, etc...

I believe that Linus pronounces the "i" with an "ee" sound as in "bee."

How to pronounce Linux
Pronouncing the word `` Linux'' is one of the great mysteries of the Linux world. Americans pronounce the name Linus with a long i sound, as in pie. However, because Linux was originally based on a small, PC-based implementation of UNIX called ``Minix'' (pronounced with a short i), the actual pronunciation of Linux preserves this characteristic-it's LIH-nucks. Think Finnish.
