how do users adjust their monitor screen ??

this is what confuses me for a long time ... i mean the contrast and brightness of the screen or what people called gamma(??) ...

probably things like that are subjective when comes to personal computer screens(they cant be controlled from a single point) but they are definately not like when people are viewing a real life object ... at least we are viewing with the "lights" and probably enviroment of the creator of the object which is controlled and everyone are actually veiwing with the same lights and in the same enviroment ...

any "standards" which user use to adjust the monitor screens against with ??

what utilities/programs or procedures you use ??

is it possible to "enforce" it with the help of of the underlying graphic system or tags(donno about the correct term.) in web pages , at least this happens only within a monitor screen itself without considering the "room lightings" ...

thanks for the link and i had actually have a look at that article before but guess that its a little bit too hard for me to adjust anything ... so i'm asking whether people down here are using any other alternative material which are simpler and easier ...

anyway , i'm using the default 1.0 at the moment ...

Wear sunglasses to change the gamma. Look through a kaleidoscope to change the colors. And If you want to change the shape... well,

... smash it , throw it away and get myself a brand new one ... ^_^


ok , guess that for the time being , i will stick to full brightness and contrast control with the default 1.0 gamma in my puppy linux ...

Any monitor worth it's weight in bologna should have buttons to tinker with brightness, contrast, and gamma on the monitor itself. My circa-98 one does as well as my newest one.

I use a 19" Samsung Syncmaster 997DF and most the time i leave the settings of brightness,contrast,gamma at default. The monitor is quite ok in any games and applications. Besides why should you need to tinker these settings? Most games,media players etc have all inbuilt controls for these so why adjust the hardware of monitor? Also i think it depends a lot on your gfx card. Even this provides controls for changing the same like 'color correction' on nvidia.

ok , mine is a philips 14" 104s(but color , lucky me ...) and my graphics is a sis 530/620 ...

apart from the fact that i just found out i can "manually" having options specific to that device and probably monitor too in my X configuration files ... i think probably its time for me to get myself a better monitor(maybe a used 17" flat screen) and a slightly better graphics card ...
