How do I stop RH9 from shutting down my nic
I have an Asus A7V8X with an onboard Broadcom 4401 network card. I'm running Redhat 9, kernel 2.4.2-8 I believe... When I shutdown Redhat it also shuts off my network card, which is a problem because I also use WindowsXP(I know, but I'm slowly migrating to linux, hopefully I can one day rid myself of the MS Demons!) How can I get it to leave it on? And the other question is... Is there a file like the boot.ini for windows? And is there another one for the shutdown process as well?

i believe that all OS's are the same in that with a complete shutdown all hardware pheripherals are indeed powered off. However with linux you can have the option of several init run levels.
most linux distros come with either a grub or lilo boot option. So the file ur lookin for is prolly the grub.conf or lilo.conf |
Isn't grub just the boot loader? Not the actualy conf file for start up and shut down processes?

I had the same problem. But it is a windows XP problem.
Just update your winxp ethernet driver with the latest one from the broadcom website (http://www.broadcom.com) and your problem should be solved. |
Not a security question. In fact, this is looking like a Windows-related question. In the future, please select the most appropriate forum before posting, thanks.
