How come the Zero Reply Thread.... ?

never seems to go down from : "Pages (1081)", no matter how many I reply to?

Maybe categorized sections for the zero reply link would be cool. Then if your forte is X, you can go through a whole bunch real quick like.

By O/S or by context, Networking or GUI or Install, etc.

Why? I don't see that this thread is actually a suggestion, more like a rant stating that your too slow in replying to 0 posts and can't keep up with new posts to bring the total number of 0 replied pages down below 1081... ;)

and I think its a great idea, it will make it alot easier to reply to the threads.. especially for those of us who know things in categories.. like someone might know everything about installing programs, but nothing about networking...

It would, yes, but since the threads are not already categorised that way, someone (Jeremy/the mods) would have to go through each and every one of them manually and recategorise them. Once they have an answer, they would need tobe re-re-categorised to get them back in their correct forums.

That's a bit more work than I want to do!

Let me just point out that it IS possible to view 0 reply threads only in the sub-section you want. It doesn't break them down by X or whatever... but you can at least narrow it down a little.

Example: When in the linux-newbie forum, click on the "view all threads with 0 replies" link near the top of the list of topics... and it will show all the 0 reply threads in the the linux-newbie forum only.

I hope I made that clear... it's hard to describe.

Clink on this link for an example of what you would see:

oh wow
never noticed that link
that basically solves the problem :)

we are just like everybody else ,nothing's changed.

in fact after reading posts in this thread i did have a sudden interest in those 0 replies. Thanks

originally it was:
"the hypocracy of the linux(open source?) communities in general ?
they are just like everybody else ,nothing's changed."

thanks for the knock from scuzzman.

Any particular reason for the animosity in this post?
Personally, I think jeremy and the mods do an incredible job here at LQ. I think the members of LQ offer a great help site for people struggling with Linux.

Remember, no-one, repeat no-one, is being paid for this. They all do this because the Linux/Open Source community is great, and if I ever meet jeremy or a mod, you can bet I'll buy'em a beer.

that post had been re-edited.
thanks for the knock.

I was referring to the "hypocrites" (or however the hell that's spelled) part.
I don't consider myself one...

alred 03-21-2005 07:31 AM

neither do anybody consider themselves that....

any better words other than "hypocrisy"(after checking the dictionary):(

XavierP 03-21-2005 08:29 AM

Just to balance it all out, the reasons that we have 0 reply threads are simple: people with knowledge sometimes miss the threads, the threads are so poorly titled ("Heeeeeellllllpppp" and "I am a noob" type titles) that our more active members will sometimes disregard them and finally, the problem may be so specific to one site or be to do with something so obscure that no one can help.

Let's not forget that thread starters can help themselves by replying to their own threads with things they have tried while waiting for an answer, that can sometimes kick start an answer.
