I quote: "Linux is for dumb nerds who want to look cool because they have a command line. Nobody else cares about Linux"
Seriously, this guy is a total jackass, and I need to convince hime of some mjaor benefit of linux.
It can't be a thing about microsoft's restricive licensing, and it can't be anything about price either.
I've tried better security (he said: "my windows box has never been hacked"), no spyware (he said: "I don't have any spyware on my PC" ), more reliable (he said: "My PC has been running non-stop for the last three months" - pfft), and a few other things.
I'm not trying to change him (that's never going to happen), but I need something to convince him to leave me alone about my choice to run Linux instead of Windows.
If that doesn't work, perhaps you should read some information
about Linux Advocacy > /usr/share/doc/Linux-HOWTOs/Advocacy
And if neither of those work, well, show him by your kindness and
the greater system you have in the long run.
Seriously, you won't convert this Windoze zealot, nor get him to
stop harrassing you, anymore than you could convert me from
Slackware to one of the commercial Linux distros.

So tell him that the Windows Control Panel is for lusers. Real Men(TM) change their system configurations with Vi.

Oh, really? Has he checked? I've never seen an Internet-connected Windows box that didn't have some spyware on it. Even Kim Komando, Queen of the Windows Weenies, uses Adaware

You might wanna try an aluminum bat (Just remember: When the cops come, you didn't hear that from me )
But seriously, the best thing you can do is ignore people like this. For him, I doubt this is about Windows vs. Linux. Some people are just jerks that like looking for a fight.
you cant go fighting with everyone who disagrees with your opinion, beliefs, viewpoints or taste for if you did you would never get any work done. Just let it go, you cant win em all but you may drive yourself crazy trying.
Don't worry over it, there is freedom to choose, and that's what's really important. Enjoy your freedoms while you can, and don't push your preferences on others....there's already enough of that going on.
That being said, if he chooses to push his on you, lay the smack on him.
Very ancient proverb say ...
"Do not answer a fool according to his folly
Lest you also be like him
Answer a fool according to his folly
Lest he be wise in his own eyes"
Some say - there is contradiction in the proverb
not so !
Contradiction is in fool
best just to walk away from those people rjstephens
another proverb say
"give him enough rope
and he will hang himself"
You can say that he could have become a programmer and modify linux kernel as he want, because it is open sourced. Also say, that linux kernel (or *BSD) is designed very well
I will be seeing him again on Monday. I won't bring it up, but if he does, I'll hit him with this one-liner I thought up:
"Would you trust your life to your computer?" (barring risk of hardware failures and power problems, of course)
And if that doesn't work (I don't see how he can argue with that, but I don't doubt that he will) then I'll make more points about Linux's security, lack of viruses, and lack of spyware.
If that's not enough, then I'll give up He can live in his dreamworld as much as he wants.
