Aaagh! How can you say France? I think the people must be the rudest on the planet,. If you go anywhere with an English accent then you're straight to the back of the queue!!

I really don't know why we bothered to help them in WWII (maybe that's why they hate us). As punishment to Germany we should have made them keep France!!

You do honour to your nick!
Do you actually know a Frenchman or do you (as I expect you do) base your opinion on stereotypes and prejudice. Ok so maybe you might have been in France, let's see one time? Paris?
If it was Paris, bear in mind that Parisians are no different than any inhabitant of a major city!
In my experience I found that the French might be a little hesistant toward tourists (and why wouldn't they, since tourists floud their cities and countrysides acting as if they own the place!), but as soon as you show a genuine interest in them and their country they open up and then you'll find them to be quite a freindly people!
Also don't judge entire peoples on basis of what their politicians say or do. If I were to do that I would hate the Dutch, the English, the french, the North-Americans (very much them, I hate the arrogance of US-politics) and so on.... Very often the politician DON"T reflect what the people think

So where are you from?

Many years ago I use to work in a bar in the UK with a French chap on the team. He was a great laugh and friendly. I've not been to Paris but I've been skiing in France (I can't remember the place) and wasn't too impressed. I can speak a bit of the lingo and I did attempt to make the effort to speak French.

As for Parisionans being no different, I can't agree more. Have you ever tried visiting London and asking for directions? You may as well talk to the bus stop.

I've even got French blood in me (somewhere) as my fathers side is French. I certainly wouldn't say I judge them on the basis of politics or the media, I can make my own opinions.

However, I certainly don't like their attitute to the English (me being one as well). Ok, for some boring reason, the English like to talk about the last war, but during WWI my family was virtually wiped out fighting on their soil, and for what? Now they want to go and build an airport on their war graves.

So were you saying it b/c you meant it or were you just experimenting with our reactions?

In Dutch we have a saying: He does honour to his name (hij doet zijn naam eer aan) it means that the name reflects the personality or actions either positively or negatively.

There's your problem right there, wrong place wrong time, a skiresort flouded with tourists!

You can't deny though that the media does have a great influence whether you like it or not, that's your information source.

Ok, if the're relatives involved I understand that you consider that to be, let's say, "not so decent" But again, don't just a people b/c some developer had some idea about an airport. I'm very sure that a lot a French don't like the idea either.

I normally don't stop long in France (usually on the way to Spain), but the few occasions that I've been in the country for more than about 15hrs, I've found the people to be really quite friendly. Grantedly I did go out a little, I didn't focus on going to any of the seriously tourist-oriented places. The most tourist-focused place I went to in France must have been around Brittany, and these people were still really quite friendly.

Barbarian: If you knew that at least 1 person would take offence to your statement, why make it?

Isa is right... French accents are sooo cool. Coming from a cute guy, they can make girls heart melt

There are many places I would like to go besides a Carribean adventure. Alaska to see the Lights, Antartica just to say I have been there, Australia / New Zealand for the beauty, Africa for a safari, Europe to shop and browse, and Russia to visit the architecture and people.

I could pass on China, since I really dont support their policy of killing their own people and babies. Sucks thogh, since Tibet would be neat.
