Help with translation
 

Good evening

I´m doing some translating for my college´s final exam, and I´m having issues with a term which I can´t figure out what does it mean?
Since English is not my natural language, I hope someone can help me out with that:

"This software uses much less resources when on an 8-way machine with 3GHz processors and, of course, much more when on a 2-way machine with slower processors."

I got the hole phrase, except for the terms "8-way/2-way". Can someone please tell me what does that mean?
