Do you mean Windows Genuine Advantage? You should use the correct name for things if you want to be understood. I doubt that anyone here knows how to remove Windows Genuine Advantage. Asking questions about Windows here is like asking Motorola for technical information about Nokia products.
Slight side effects includes removing Windows altogether and increased productivity.
On a more serious note you can just google on how to disable it, but AFAIK if you remove and visit the windows update site it will probably get re-installed.
I believe it was many years ago--perhaps even at the beginning. I think I also heard that Jeremy doesn't discuss it. (Maybe whois has the original creation date??)
