Aaron, I know you can at least do some level of programming! Remember, I have been in some of your Computing classes. [sarcasm]Remember that really interesting lesson on how to do bubble sorting in Pascal?[/sarcasm] You should realise just how programmes arise.

As for myself, I'm not much of a programmer (was quite good at VB back in the days when it was VB 3.0, but not much since then) although I am trying to teach myself C. I have, however, written a couple of man pages here an there.

I was just kidding about the lynching .... lol..
If he doesn't understand making programs then we should enlighten .. not make fun of him.. sorry 8asmith.... I'll refrain from the like of wich I posted from here on....

But maybe you could be more specific? How do you mean making programs is impossible?
I have programmed in many other environments before, but, considering my relative newness to Linux, haven't made anything for Linux yet. However, I have uncovered kdevelop and I really like what it does as far as building the basics of a kde application. Consider, all by itself, it makes a blank kde application that will put a window on the screen, and allow the user to move, size and close it. However, the innards are up to me and I realize that. Unfortunately, I am lost so far and the documentation is not being very much help. Any quick and specific tips on how to read from a given file and on how to put something in that window would be very much appreciated.

Ok I will rephrase my statement, I have seen source code for some Linux programs and it is very long and can take some time, what I meant to say was that I could never right something that complicated ever, the most I have ever written is bubbles, and loops and that’s in a high level programming tool such as Pascal.

I think that the people who write the Linux software are some of the most smartest people around and that the programs that these people write are better than what windows software writers could ever do in there life because of there faulty and sometimes unreliable software.

So although I am useless at writing software/ programs other people are not and I respect their intelligence.

P.S don’t worry I did not take offence of your posts I don’t like retaliating and your opinions are respected

A few minor utilities...right now I'm working on an SVGAlib-based windowing system, mainly just for the hell of it.

Does writing a program that's not too far removed from "Hello, World!" count? It was a C++ program that used only the Standard C++ Library and was actually just recompiled with GCC from the same program written under Visual C++ in Windows.

I guess not.

Anyway, when I bother to really learn windowing or networked sockets, I'll make sure to use a free library that's available in both Linux and Windows. I'd probably learn Gtk+ for windowing.

Does some one know a good tutorial how-to start graphics programming in linux. I'm interested especially in 3D programming.

As a former cross development software "writer" I'm almost offended at that statement. With very few changes my faulty and sometimes unreliable windows software compiled natively in Linux.

and I just backspaced over a large block of ranting text. Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and nobody likes anyone else's.

I would have to agree with you on this one. There is great software for Windows as is there for Linux and many other OS platforms.

Don't knock software developers for developing for Windows as I would have to say the majority of the time its not their software that is buggy, crashes, etc.
