Have you done anything cool with Linux?

I just use it so that I can put it on my resume. I have yet to do anything cool.

Does Experiencing/Suffering a stage 1 install of Gentoo count? (Its like LFS--but better!)

The only really cool thing I've done with linux is prove to myself that I'm up to the challenge. That was a big deal to me, it's helping me stay the course on learning other things.
Oh, and I've brought another into the fold, one of the kids prefers my machine to any of the windows machines available in the house, so I'm doing my part for the revolution!

I guess the coolest thing I've done with Linux is customized things to run at 2048x1536 resolution on an old monitor which is normally only capable of 1024x768 resolution. This was done via customizing an interlaced modeline.

I know how to do this in Windows also, actually, but the result in Windows is completely unusable. When you run at extremely high resolutions on a small monitor, you need everything to use large fonts. You just can't do this in Windows. You can try, but you'll quickly discover that many things like line spacing are hardcoded to insufficient maximums and you get overlapping text and/or only see the top 1/3 of text.

With KDE, I was able to customize all fonts and icons large enough to be usable. For web browsing, I had to switch to Opera for its unique zoom capability. With the high resolution, everything looks amazingly sharp and detailed--especially text and digital photos.

My rig has a hw problem that makes it freeze within a few minutes/hours in windows xp. It runs for weeks on end (still does freeze occasionaly) in Linux. Low key but I really don't fancy spending money on a new rig.

But still resent not being able to go video editing/DVD mastering for dummies in Linux and to join video chats on major networks.

For the rest, I am fine.

I find it cool that I use Linux and that I have learned so many things about this system.I want to go on with programming as well and I have started a little bit with reading some books.
