Have you considered suicide?

If you have any questions or comments feel free to post here.

Thanks,

I ask myself, why is suicide on the rise now of all times? Its rising in the USA, in the US Military, what has happened?

aizkorri 02-06-2009 03:08 AM

Well, the question is a bit hard,

As I think, there's only one reason that I could accept for suiciding,
is that your health makes you stay your whole life in a bed.

If your health is ok, then...the other reasons..., well, for me suiciding is a way of escaping from the problems.
Yeah it could be that you see everything black, everything over,
everything like shit..., but we have only one life, (one life, one love..., as Johnny Cash would say)...

There are moments when I've thought that everything was over..., but suiciding was too much, you know, in life, there
are stairs for going up, and down..., and it's a constant change...

Wasn't there a word in Japanese for saying crisis and opportunity?

for everyone, carry on!

The answer is no. And I will never consider suicide. Why would I want to kill myself ? It's other people that are the problem, not me.

I suppose the main reason might be because there is no point to it, no point in living further. But then my philosophy states that there is no point or purpose to living anyway, so why would this be a reason to stop living ? It wouldn't, so I will never consider suicide.

Suicide: A permanent solution to a temporary problem.

That's a good one.

I have never considered suicide. Those out there that do for various medical reasons, well thats their choice. The only thing that really bothers me is those who use suicide in place to escape consequences of their own actions, and even worse take someone with them (Columbine shootings). Hence murder-suicide, or just killing themselves rather than owning up to whatever they may have done. If those who still insist on committing suicide, I wish they would just have the decency to leave the rest of us out of their problems, instead of blaming society, and trying to lash out by taking others with them!

It depends on character.
I know following conditions that might lead to suicide.
1) Having no purpose in life.
2) Making one huge mistake in the past that cannot be undone. (this should be something truly catastrophic for yourself or someone else).
3) Feeling (for prolonged periods) unhappy, cornered, surrounded by tons of problems that cannot be possibly solved, having no hope, and being sure that everything will get only worse.
4) Destruction of ideals or life-time goals, loss of something personal or valuable, etc.
5) Uncontrollable rash of emotions.

Of course, there are idiots that kill themselves to "prove" something, mad cultists that will happily burn themselves, etc. but this is another story.

You aren't looking at the whole picture. People don't kill themselves because of other people. They kill themselves when living looks worse than death for them. (and I'm talking about suicide and not some kind of pseudo-heroic self-sacrifice rubbish).

Overused citation of statement made by person that was obviously unfamiliar with the subject. Not all problems are temporary.

Good cure from all suicidal thoughts is to remember that there is no coming back, and (depends on your beliefs) that place where you'll get by killing yourself, might actually be worse than current one.

AFAIK people that kill themselves rarely complain about their problems, or openly blame society - they simply take their life after considering it for a very long time, and people who talk about killing themselves rarely actually do it.

Borrowing the words of a Dutch artist who lives in 17 th century

Quote Committing suicide is making murders of those who stay behind End quote

So will I ever consider it no

Interesting:
1) Check
2) Several smaller ones, less catastrophic
3) Check, except it doesn't bother me. If I were surrounded by an army of dark undead minions and I would have no weapons and everyone else would have already succumbed, I would still fight to the death against the hordes.
4) Very close ... not sure yet.
5) Sometimes, but rare.

I'm a perfect candidate it seems, and yet I persist. Not to mention that I've looked death in the eye many times for various reasons.

Psychology note:
Did you know that some psychoactive pharmaceuticals will in rare cases change your psyche so much as to make you insanely and unstoppably suicidal ? It's a rare side-effect, but very real. A simple tilt in the balance will cause you to spiral down into the abyss.

Suicide is closely correlated with ongoing depression. With all due respect, what has happened isn't exactly a mystery. The economies in many parts of the US suck, and (IMO) we're going through a needed but painful "loose credit" correction.

For those considering suicide, get yourself some counseling and some happy pills if needed. There is nothing wrong with needing help now and then; it just requires the guts to go get it.

In my opinion, fighting dark undead minions doesn't fit that description, because in this case you have clear purpose, and suffering unlikely will be prolonged :).
Maybe "cornered" wasn't the right word. I mean problem/situation with no exit (lack of exit might be an illusion).
I meant quite everyday events - dissatisfaction with social status, job, personal life, etc., with no hope of anything improving. That is worse than fighting hordes of dark undead minions with no weapons.

It is not an official list, it is just my opinion. If you are interested, you could search for info about suicides - there is bound to be tons of material available.
As I said, it depends on character. Some people will never think about suicide, while some other might seriously consider it based on their thoughts only. Also sometimes bizzare suicides like this one happen.
I think that introverts have higher chance of considering suicide, but this is only opinion, without anything to support it.

Really ? Maybe that should be included in the survey.

If you had a choice between being in the following 2 situations, which one would you choose:

1) You are a bachelor that is dissatisfied with your social status, job, personal life, and there is no hope of anything improving.

2) Being on a planet where you are the only one left alive and hordes of undead minions are closing in on your location. All you have with you is a T-shirt and some baggy pants ... and you spot some rocks on the ground.

lol, that first one is hilarious ... and sad too.

Introvert .... check.

I don't know. Situations looks pretty equal, although fighting minions with rocks looks like a bit of more fun.
