Growing Up...
 

I've noticed, I created my membership here on linuxquestions.org a few months back.. march I think and I did not have a answer to asingle question posted on this site. As time passes I've created more projects and got even more involved with GNU/Linux Im starting to notice I can supply valid answers to many of the questions here. Im actaully starting to notice a lot of you doing that.

So this post is to encourage the gurus to continue with your work here, even tho at times it may feel like questions are repeated constantly... newbs NEVER search for related threads BUT... im living proof that these attributes change, I back search all the time now... little ol' me, bkeating, the one you helped spoon feed for a LONG time. :)

I will give back to the community just as you have, I get all geeked out when I think about the power of our (not just lq.org but the entire GNU/Linux) community when I see how well we perform, It's all done out of passion and it's becuase of that we will continue to grow stronger and stronger to build a solid foundation for all who understand the value of freedom (and rock solid performance).

We all share the same outlook and you know what... thats f**kin awesome. :)

Glad to hear of your story (although I don't think that I have personally helped you). To be honest with you, the ppl that make these forums the greatest are the guru's and those who constantly answer the same old questions time and time again.
I would be the first to admit that I am no linux guru, but with other threads on this site, and the real time information that the ppl who post here provide I know that my knowledge of linux grows everyday.

Right on! I've rarely posted questions, here or elsewhere. I'll answer a few here and there when I can, but I read the forums here and on LinuxJunior regularly. But I've sure learned where to find the answers over the last few years. When I have some dumb LibraNet/Debian question I hit the Debian mailing list archives, about 30 minutes tops and I've got my answer. It's just a tad different from RedHat ;)

The GNU/Linux community is where it's at. I just love it. I'm stuck in WinDoze land at work, and searching out an answer takes me days as compared to hours or less with Linux.

Next stop World domination ;D

Woohoo! For us. We joined around the same time and I feel the same way. In fact you joined just 2 weeks before me. I like to come back here, not just because I am a complete idiot and have no short term memory, but because it's cool to see what I can do to help other's out. Linux people rule, I am sure you could never get this kind of support from ANY other OS forum. Plus anyone can learn how to administer and work with, so that in time they will become the one answering the younger gen's questions. Just like Me and You dude! Cool!

Maybe one day, 2 years from now, we will be as wicked cool as the mods/LQ Addicts who are on here now.

Its the exactly the same thing i was thinking about! I thought how a year ago i knew little and how i asked the questions all the newbies ask now, and i'm glad that i have enough knowledge to help out somene else.
Do you think it is possible to learn all about Linux, inside out? So that you can sit back and watch your perfectly configured Linux box running? I really hope not! I get very frustrated at times because i can't figure out how to setup/configure something in Linux, but then once i succeed it's a great satisfaction, and learning something you are interested in is fun indeed.
I already have plans on what i should learn next, but no time to actually do it. I want to learn Bash scripting, More C so i can actually help out sometimes, then all aspects of network configuration and whole Linux configuration. I want to be able to install fresh Linux and configure all i need within a couple if days, a task that is taking 1 year and a half so far! But im interested in doing this, and i'm working and looking forward to be called a Linux Guru within a couple of years, like some people here are already!

When it comes to linux i know next to nothing, but i know i want to learn about linux in a very personal way.

sure windows has market share, sure it's easy to use - so where is the challenge, where is the untaped power. unlike linux what you see is what you get.

any how back on topic, it is great to see ya guys helping guys like me eagerly. chat with ya later - maybe i'll be able to give ya a little of aussie perspective (upside down)

hehe. I suppose i could be called a newbie but Id call myself an experince Newbie !!! This forum has been the best non distro specific forums as it has people who use all the distros not just one and who dont go "Gop with this distro..."
