Lightbulb Green Laptopīs LINUX (OLPC, MIT ones)

As surely you are aware, the OLPC organization (One Laptop Per Child), MIT, United Nations, and World Bank are sponsoring a new $100 USDlls Green Laptop, prepared to use by children in rural areas, to learn.

I guess the Linux to be used in these PCīs is a stripped down version of Linux, it is necessary for developers, to know the characteristics, and to share help in itīs qwirks & bugs. Maybe we shoud set up a specific SUBForum ("Green Laptops Linux") to deal with such HW & SW (and PW = peopleware, the users) problems & tricks.

Besides be aware that surely children will start to lend their Green Laptops. to family members for many uses beyond the original one, namely, education:

ANOTHER USES FOR PCīS BOOST ECONOMY, WELFARE, HEALTH, AND FOOD.

The adoption of these Green PCīs at any country will permit:

1.- EDUCATION A quantum jump in quality of education as it permits every child, youngster, and adult to have its own PC, with access to all free textbooks, encyclopedias, educational games, etc.

2,- REMOTE WORK Will permit the development of policies of NOT EXPORTING WORKERS but IMPORTING JOBS, as India, China, and some other countries are doing by doing remote jobs over Internet, also rural population can stay at home to avoid urban saturation.

3.- MEDICAL/HEALTH SERVICES: In Australia where distances to neighbors is measured not in feet, but IN HOURS OF FLIGHT, medical doctors have developed systems to counsel with their clients through Internet; the application of such techniques might put the health services within reach of the rural and small communities population, without building expensive installations all over the Nation.

4.- JOBS FOR DISABLED & ELDERS: It might also bring counseling about Problems in: Homework & Study, Domestic & Familiar, Entrepreneur & Small Business Owner, Social, Tourist & Governmental activities, these advices might be given by disabled, elders, and parents of “special children”, using their Green PCīs or phones.

5.- INDUSTRIAL/TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT: It might also help to promote a national computers and software industry, by contracting such itīs manufacture & assembly at the nation.
-.--.-.-.-.-.

And I think, it should be a large SUBForum divided into appropiate SUB subForae for the different areas in which we might have questions & tips in the qwirks & bugs and the SW, PW & HW (PW = peopleware) related to the Green Laptopīs Linux, remembering that we are not talking about different types of Laptops as when I searched for "damn small" Linux and got many entries. We are talking about a single type of HW & SW which there will be millions of units, in several strange alphabets.
