Got Beer?

I know there are a lot of people here who are from different corners of the world, and I was just wondering what you drink...

I think the most popular beer here in America is budweiser, but I can't drink that.

I'm from south Louisiana, and we have a microbrew here called Abita, which makes some pretty good beer. In the movies, if the setting is New Orleans, they drink Dixie, but I think the only people who drink Dixie are tourists.

So, do people in Aussieland / NZ really drink Fosters?

Do the Irish drink GUINNESS?

Right now I'm having a Warsteiner, but my favorite kind of beer is http://www.paulaner.de

i've had several abita's. here ( a little north of you ),
we can get turbodog, purple haze, and one other.
a friend of mine lived in new orleans for a while and
brought me some abita bock. I guess thats my
favorite abita.
Bell's Kalamazoo Stout is my current favorite.
My favorite IPA and porter are from Sea Dog Brewing
in Maine. My sister brought them down for me.
I have to drive to Missouri to order the Bell's, which
is from Michigan. My favorite chocolate stout is one
i've only had once. Wildcatters Crude Stout from
Yellow Rose Brewing in San Antonio Texas.

I quit drinking the megabrews 5 years ago, when i
started trying the weak micros like Pete's, Portland,
and Sierra Nevada. After i got used to those, i
started wanting more varied stuff.

For me the beer to choose always depends on what I'm doing (and who's paying). If I'm up for a leery night on the town, then it is usually fosters or carling since its the cheapest.

If someone else is paying, then its often adnams or worthingtons. Sometimes maybe try the local brew.

Guiness-wise i think its a drink which has similar traits with marmite. You either love the drink or hate it with a passion. I can't stand to look at the stuff but some of my friends drink it like water.

Alex

P.S. according to a New Zealand friend I had no-one there or in Australia would touch fosters. They think its piss. Same sort of view that a lot of brits hold towards bud....... (obviously the czech stuff is given some leeway)

you shouldn't drink around other people.
you might do something stupid.
only drink alone in front of the tv or computer.
and the first time you pick up the speaker or
the telephone by accident and try to take a
drink from it, it's time to quit.

If you're in a pub in Ireland and you bump into a tourist you can tell where he's from if he's drinking Guinness. Guiness leaves a tell-tale ring of foam in the glass if it sits for a spell.

If the person's glass has....

at least 20 rings - They're American
about 7 rings - Canadian
no rings - Australian

Well, i'm Canadian so I have to support our week economy:

Molson Canadian
O'Keefs extra old stock (the champaign of malt liquor)
Anything by Big Rock
Kokanee
Sleeman
Alexander Keith's pale ale

As far as imports, the only one I really drink that much is Fischer Alace from france, the only beer in the world that tastes better warm, good for those hot summer days when you're camping and don't have a fridge.

Hoegaarden, sure, for special occasions; but for every day drinking Tiger Beer or Cobra has to have it. Both excellent with curry btw.

Wouldn't like to drink too much of either before messing with this box tho'; for reasons suggested in david_ross's .sig; after a couple bottles, I wouldn't notice if I made that especially nasty typo

only do that if you mean to do it....
