If you've never watched The Enemy Below, do so. It was easily Robert Mitchum's greatest job of acting. And Curt Jurgens is equally wonderful.

In the book, which I've read and which is even better than the movie, the destroyer is British, not American, but the submarine is still German.

enorbet, there's nothing wrong with corny. Stuff becomes "corny" when it's repeated too often, and it's repeated too often because it contains truth, same like cliches.

Indeed! It seems to say beautifully that reality is much more than what we see.
