GNU/Hurd

I'm just curious as to what your thoughts are on the Hurd. I searched for other threads on this subject and didn't find much of anything. I personally believe that it will be a long time before it replaces linux, but it's a good concept.

For those new to the hurd.

Technically and originally, Linux replaced the Hurd as the focus for the GNU team. I think some on the team are getting work going on it again, but it doesn't have the popularity of Linux. This is mostly because it's been decades in the making and still doesn't run on much. . . That's the danger of starting from scratch with a grand design. . . Linus' plan was much simpler, so it took off much more quickly.
The concept of the Hurd *may* be a cleaner, nicer concept of an OS, but it's taking so long to get it working that it's still mostly just pipe dreams.
IMO.

Well, at the moment I'm looking at the fresh Debian/Hurd install I made on my old laptop... And I can assure you that Linux's days aren't over just yet.

But let's remember HURD isn't completed...

it was due out "real soon now" before linus started building the first linux kernel, it's a bit like the wine project, it's been around forever, and is still nowhere near being finished.
