The difference between working at a job all day and enjoying your hobby all day is (1) you get paid to do your job (2) you might not enjoy your work.

So... pick something you love and never work a day in your life. But I agree with the OP in that you can learn to love something you picked for other reasons. So perhaps it should be work/study at what you want, but love what it is that you study or work at.
