The "internet" went on for too long uncensored, it started hurting the imaginary profits of the dinosaurs in the entertainment industry, so it had to stop. The "truth" about certain wars, people, events, organisations, transactions, etc, etc, etc started to get out - that definitely had to stop. This was going to happen one way or the other.

In the US, where freedom of information is not exactly in the administration's interests, this was definitely going to happen. The administration and the big corporations whose pockets they are in want to control the WWW and ensure that you only see what they want you to see. If you have trouble accepting this or feel the urge to cry "tin foil hat", then look no further than the last great "mass media" invention - the television. Now a tool for mass propaganda along with it's predecessor the newspaper. The WWW will go the same way.

It has to get a lot worse before it can get a lot better.

I think it is the beginning of the end for internet ... the last bastion of freedom. Prepare for the world war and dark age that is to come. I don't know what is going to happen after these, but I won't stick around to find out

A lot of this is driven by the entertainment industry, which hasn't figured out that folks will download stuff for free when they wouldn't pay for it on a bet, because it's not worth paying for.

They have convinced themselves that every unauthorized download of their execrable output is a lost sale, when, in fact, it is a sale that would never have been. If the "pirates" couldn't watch/listen to it for free, no one would watch/listen to it.

I learned recently that, when piano rolls for player pianos were first invented, the sheet music industry screamed "piracy."

I, for one, will never buy anything from the entertainment industry anymore. With two possible exceptions ... The Hobbit part 1 and 2. Other than that, I don't need any of their junk. Much of it isn't even worth pirating much less buying at high prices in a bad economy.
