FreeBSD users vs Linux users

Some of the people reading this thread are using FreeBSD .. most are using Linux .. some are using both .. and others using neither.

My question is: can't we all just get along ?

Why do people have to fight with operating systems ? Some Linux distributions are good operating systems, FreeBSD is a good operating system .. why can't both sides admit the above two facts and get along?

I like Slackware Linux.
I love FreeBSD.

I respect both FreeBSD and Linux (and not only) and the knowledgable parts of their user bases.

Why can't we all leave in peace dammit ?

I can't say much about FreeBSD as I've only touched it a couple of times, but I see no reason for the Linux users to be critical of the BSD family or vice versa.

Sometimes you get the people who think they are better than others because they are using Linux or BSD.

Ha I got it

Perhaps it's this sort of attitude that the OP was referring to.

I use about 3 operating systems on a regular basis. My file/web/network/anything-that-has-the-word-server-in-it server(s) run some variety of BSD (I like to experiment). My Fun Box runs several different distros of Linux, and there is the almighty, bloated, CPU hog called Wintendo that I keep around because some games just don't run well in linux yet. *cough* HL2 *cough* And there is the old box (i.e. won't run even a 2.0 kernel of linux old) I keep around running freedos just for a museum piece and to remind me how much I like UNIX style shells.

I guess that's a sad fact of life.

I personally admire the BSD users simply because they apparently know how to do things I have no clue about...

My only BSD problem is that it took me 5 hours to get networking running in BSD, it worked out of the box so-to-speak in every linux I have tried.

If you spend time reading Linux docs, then you can be just as knowledgeable about Unix as the BSD guys. Gentoo docs are well written and I sometimes read them when I have problems with other Linux distros.

It took me ages to setup networking on my first ever NetBSD installation, but was very easy on FreeBSD.
