Freakin' copy protection in WinXP...

Man...What a joke.

I know. I should have been using Linux at the time, but I wasn't.

I had someone in France send me some music that they wanted me to listen to, and when I tried to listen to it, it says that I have to first aquire a license (do a license migration). Mind you, my friend in France owns the dang CD. She just wanted me to listen to a few songs she thought was kool. The files were .wma files.

I cannot listen to 3 of the 4 songs because of this BS. What a joke.

If this is where things are going, the future of computing will suck a$$.

OK, I'm done with my rant.

Peace all....
Looks like I need to really spend more time with Linux :)

So just use linux to play the music. No biggie right?

Whitehat 06-13-2003 09:36 AM

Right. Exactly. I'm getting ready to Dual Boot my XP Laptop with RH8. If everything goes well for a month or two....I'll delete XP :)

until you get rh8 on just use knoppix. :)

I don't think linux will play .wma files.

darin3200 06-13-2003 03:14 PM

Use Mplayer it will play every media format I've come across and many that I've haven't included wma, wmv, and quicktime. I think or just look on google

Happy to say that I'm typing this from my Redhat 8 load on my Laptop. I'm sitting in my living room on the sofa with my Netgear wireless working. I have to say it's good to be back.

:D Yay !

Just a note...

MPlayer doesn't play anything if you haven't got the right libraries. They are also available from the site, but you MUST install them in order to play certain files.

I know it is stating the obvious, but hey, sometimes it's needed.
