Forgot only admin pass, having trouble booting recovery programs
I forgot the only admin pass for my computer, Ive burned several recovery programs to cds on a friends computer, but I cannot boot them on my computer. Its a windows xp, Can anyone provide me with some step by step instructions or any clues where I went wrong?
Edit: sorry wrong forum, reposting in general, should have a delete thread feature |
I am assuming that you are using a Windows computer and not Linux. When you burn recovery programs are they iso files? If so make sure you burn them as images and not as regular data discs. Then when your computer starts access BIOS, usually done by hitting del, f1/f2/f8 etc. and set your disc drive as the first boot device. You can also change that password by using Knoppix.

If you forgot your Windows password (that's your problem right?), you can use the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor to change it. It comes on a boot floppy or CD.

Thanks for the tip. It may come in very handy at work someday.
