Firefox Now like IE with tabs
 

Hi
After blowing up my boot MBR, I'm in Windoze land and just got the new IE from Bill!

Er is this a re-skined Firefox? looks like it to me. :tisk:

I know M$ like to copy but this is ridiculous, just goes to show how good Firefox is!!!

We'll be having multi-boot next of non M$

In all fairness, Firefox didn't come up with tabbed browsing. It's just become more mainstream since Firefox became popular.

Your title was backward though. Made it sound like Firefox copied IE.

Yeah, FF wasn't the first one with tabs. And why shouldn't Microsoft make also their browsers the kind of people like to use? I mean, it's just foolish to create software that isn't liked of. If it's clear a browser like FF is commonly used, it's just a good idea to brush up their own browser towards the same outlook.

If you consider that funny, how about this IceWeazel thingie? If you laugh at MS "copying Firefox", I think you should die of laughter thinking why somebody would grab Firefox, remove Mozilla logos and do all the work just to have a non-Mozilla-logo'ed browser..

Well, this is more of a trademark/copyright and security patching issue. Kind of the same reason why CentOS exists, because they can't legally use Red Hat's trademarks. The Debian distribution has certain guidelines that apply to software libre (freedom) that can't be met at this time because of Mozilla's trademarks. So to maintain their creed of freedom, they had to strip out Mozilla's images and names.

There's also a side issue about making security updates and stuff that they're working to resolve w/ Mozilla because Debian typically supports older versions of firefox for much longer (they're still supporting 1.07 that was shipped with Debian Sarge) than Mozilla is willing to support them. Mozilla wants all security patches to be checked by their people, but none of their people care about 1.07 since firefox is at 2.0...

Firefox is very popular and its popularity continues to grow, especially with the growth in Open Source and Linux.

Personally I run Iceweasel, but changed the name
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061205 Firefox/2.0.0.1 (Debian-2.0.0.1+dfsg-2) so the Google extensions and a couple of sites would work with it.

I'm writing this on Puppy Linux as I cant boot linux at the moment, just windoze.

I'm hoping puppy can write to the MBR and get me back my stuff.
I've managed to back it all up though.

I was messing about with 64studio and blew up the MBR with windoze on it.
So all I had was windoze, It did the usual phone home thing and installed IE 7.

Played with it for about 10 mins and loaded Firefox up.

I have Opera around here somewhere, although I'm now back on my 64studio!!!!!! :Pengy:

and have bitten the bullet and am now putting the windoze drive in another PC.
Wonder if it will just boot or get confused?? :tisk:
