Do you think this news will hasten the release of Internet Explorer 7 ?

Re: FireFox continues to forge ahead

Isn't IE7 beta scheduled for this summer? they changed their plans to make it run on XP. they could make that a final and deal with the bugs as most users won't notice.

Person 1 "The back button doesn't work!"
Person 2 "Its one of the innovative features of IE7"

Ok I know that MS products aren't that bad.

IE7 will gain most people back who doesn't think MS is the devil and all their products suck.

I also like people using Wine won't be able to download from MS's website very soon!

RE:

IE still has 90 percent of the market. I try to tell my customers over the phone ditch IE and switch and they cant stop thanking me, however working for an ISP Im not supposed to tell people download something that doesnt already come with Windows but how many times have I helped a customer out who's browser has been highjacked but sending them a zipped copy of firefox through email and they thank me.

The new version of IE, which Mr Gates said would to be released for preliminary testing by mid-year, will have new protection against viruses, spyware and phishing scams.

If Microsoft wants to release IE7 with these new features of spyware protection and virus protection, then more power to them. Too bad they should've been doing this like 10 years ago. It's too bad that it takes another browser competitor to get them to care about their customers.

Not on my system, lol

The problems with IE is Active X and it is from MS.

Spaz007 02-19-2005 08:31 PM

FireFox +1 :D

stabile007 02-19-2005 08:58 PM

Well besides the fact that 10 years is a gross over estimation I agree that maybe 2 years ago at the latest IE should have had better implementation of protection. However Thats how compeition works as soon as someone gains ground upon you then you notice and fight back otherwise you reap the rewards.

The problem is that MS is a monopoly and as such can blackmail OEMs into doing their bidding. Just imagine the fireworks if Dell or HP started selling desktop PCs preloaded with Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice, etc.
The best thing that could happen in the IT industry right now is for MS to go the way of Ma Bell: Split it up!

True, but Apple isn't much of a threat to Microsoft. How much FUD has MS directed at them recently? Sure, there are some dedicated Mac users out there, but they're not cutting into Microsoft's market share much.
Office and Windows are Microsoft's to big cash cows. A threat to either one is scary enough to make Billy G. lose sleep at night. While MS Office may have some advanced features that are not in OpenOffice yet, the average person doesn't need very often if ever.

Microsoft's Dirty OEM Secret

Can anyone think of a reason why these people should be trusted?

Anyone want to place bets on whether Microsoft will incorporate Firefox's 'tabs' feature into IE7?

It seems like the kind of thing MS would do.
