fantastical baseball bat

Calling all Fantasy buffs!

I'm currently writing a fantasy story set in tunnels underneath my university, involving evil monks and all that sort of fun stuff.

However, I'm stuck when it comes to weaponry. I know that Tolkien and many other fantasy authors used swords, but they don't really fit my story. I thought "light sabre!" but that's not exactly original. I thought maybe some kind of wooden stick would work.

You see, my hero needs to get wacked over the head so that he is knocked out, but not killed. Swords don't exactly work here.

Thinking about it, a baseball bat would fit, but that's a bit ordinary. How can I jazz it up?

Please help!

(disclaimer. this technically is homework help, as the introduction is due in, but I will be writing the whole thing as I've been inspired.)

can actually try the bamboo thing(or things like that) ...

you dont even need to stand/squat/lying-down(or whatever) facing your opponent/s ... he/she dont even need to know that you are actually carrying that sort of thing(provided it is not visible and away from their sight) ...

//its the mother of all inventions ... believe me ...
