dual-boot windows / linux: running putty

Sorry if this isn't the right Forum.
I have a dual boot Windows 98 / Mandrake Linux machine. If I installed putty on the Windows side, can I make contact with the Linux side without using a network? If so, what would I put for the "machine" I want to log on to?

Dual boot means you can only run one OS at a time. If you want to run both at the same time, you need to look at something like VMWare.

What you are looking for is HyperOs or something of that ilk. Google it and you will find the link.

but as a short answer, No. Putty is a windows front-end for ssh, which requires a network. Since the linux machine is off, and not connected to the network, there's not way to do that. As people have said, look into VMWare, or other similar things. You could also try CoLinux
