Me too, then I found one with an MP3 player, Cell phone and Camera in it and that was a big enough excuse for me to want one. Unfortunatly I'm not a rich little daddys boy so I still haven't go one.. oh well back to McDonnalds to buy one the hard way

I'm in college and I'm wondering how useful other users think a PDA is in this setting. Is it any good for taking notes in class for example?
Thanks.
HC
Help a fellow college student who has no money out then: Give me the money! Seriously, I think your money would be better spent on a laptop (don't be lazy; check for Linux compatibility before you buy!). I only know of a couple of people who bring PDA's with them to class to take notes. Paper and pen/pencil isn't that bad, and it'll save you money.

I've got this amazingly horrible short term memory. Up to a week ago I cannot remember appointments I've made, hell I nearly forgot my birthday!
A PDA would be a necessity for me in a situation where it's critical to remember things. Such a situation where a "Franklin Planner/Day Planner" would be warranted, but without the bulk.
MasterC, you're back! Long time, no see! Anyway, I've got 2 PDAs and don't use either one, but didn't pay for them either--I won them in fair competition. They're both microshaft pocket pcs that are utterly useless with a Mac anyways. I downloaded a program called PocketMac that was supposed to allow them to sync with a Mac....what a waste of time that was! I couldn't get it to work worth beans.
I have to say after about 1 month of using each of them I realized that they took more time out of my day to use them. I have absolutely no use for them and I think they are useless.
The only things that are usefull to me (because I'm a network admin) are blackberry devices.
You can restart services on a server. Reboot the server. Send email. etc... usefull stuff.
If you want something for notes and stuff. Get a laptop. Or do like me. Buy a stack of post-it's and a bic pen
They're smaller, lighter, dont' need a case. If you lose em....whoopie dooo you just lost $3.00. You can throw them hard on the floor and still use them. Heck you could drop 'em off the top of a building and still use em at the bottom
Sometimes people use TOO much technology just because they can
At the begining of the semester i put my entire sylabus into my Axim, comes in handy. I also use it for my appointments and random events (very usefull.) Now if only it would sync with linux...
Or you could buy a PDA, A Bic and a a notebook and use the good features out of each of then when you need them
For all you peope who are sick of you're PDA's and never use them why don't you do one of two things..
**Use it as an MP3 Player
**Give it too me cause I can't afford one boo hoo hoo!

Or you can do like I did
Sell it in ebay and get about just as much money as you bought it for.
**Another thing I don't understand. People who buy MP3 players (the portable kind). Screw that. Just burn em to CD to play in your car and what not. Or better yet. Get a kick butt one to put in the dash of your car. The portable kind that are like walkman's I don't get.
Of course...I never had a portable cassette/cd/radio player anyway. I never had any interest
I don't have a car.... You have much more flexibility with an MP3 player anyway, 30gig of music instead of 700mb for a start. If you don't have one with so much space you can just keep switching songs over from you're PC to suit whatever mood you're in. Where as you'd have to burn of a new CD every time you wanted something different. Burning of my 6000 MP3s would probably cost a bit too..
