Now, of course, once the beer is cold (or the can is opened) you'll need a quick way to light the BBQ . However, I am at a complete loss as to how you could use a USB link in this.

Can opener..pfft that's for newbs! tldp.org has a howto on making a linux powered coffeemaker. I don't believe it's usb, but it should give you some ideas:

dont cds spin in there drives? option here to modify this. No idea how as i'm about as practical as using windoz to control a car. I bought a cup warmer powered by USB, that'll keep your hot chocolate warm
