Do you sometimes missed the old school geek factor?

Hi

I love technology because things are faster today than yesteryear. The same goes for computers, servers, laptops, tablets, smartphones and the Internet.

But deep down in me I sometimes missed old technologies and how things were done. For example, I missed the sound of a modem connecting to a server or ISP.

Also missed using modem commands like AT and sz and rz to transfer files and telnet to hop from computer to computer.

I also missed bulletin boards and other old school hacks. Do you have any favorite old technologies?

Grinning as I read this. Reminds me of when Harleys leaked and Bikers were not judges, doctors, lawyers, or yuppies.
There is something to be said for being non mainstream. I had more fun at runs then.

The fear I had when I played at Resident Evil 1. Dogs entered from the windows will be always the best horrific scene :D

@ kooru

my first game system was colecovision and it came with donkey kong

Yeah, sometimes I get nostalgic for the good ole days. I punched out my earliest programs on the 029 keypunch for an IBM 370 system, and on the ASR-33 paper tape punch teletype for a DEC PDP-11. That was some cool machinery. My first experience with a microcomputer was the 6502-based KIM-1.

My first gaming system was a Tandy Coco III.

Ah, the old days, when persons who used computers had to know what they were doing . . . .

My friends think I'm weird because I adore IRC and don't have a Facebook page.

a UN resolution
to buy a computing device one MUST complete ( or test out ) of a 1 year course in basic skills

guns REQUIRE a license
hunting REQUIRE a license
Driving REQUIRE a license
practicing law REQUIRE a license

It's a common thought.
The new normals.

If you don't "share" your life, what are you?

That or a abacus though I don't have those anymore. What I do have, is a notebook no kid in this generation would think of having. It runs Blueflops.

No, you can't have any of these:
  • A KIM-1.
  • A Heathkit (8-bit) microcomputer.
  • An Apple-1 motherboard.
  • IMSAI 8080
  • Altair
  • SwTPC
  • Original Mac.

Rotary telephones.
Nutshell, a very early consumer "database." It fed my teenage OCD really well.
My first gaming system was Pong. OMG I am a dinosaur.

Commodore 64/Amiga, BBSes (had a great time on the WELL), and Usenet.
