Cool that you're in Finland and you're reading the Canadian tabloids.

Sure, some people overdo it but I think the suggestion of only 6" or less is ridiculous unless they want men grabbing their groins as they sit down every time.

How close you can comfortably put your legs depends on how fat your thighs are, presumably!

Ahem, yes, quite all about the, ern, "thighs" as it were.
I do think some men make a meal of it unnecessarily but O also think there are a coupld of things, ahem, the woman quoted forgot to take into account. I'm not sure I would go as far as to call her sexist for the 6" comment but I do think it shows some, quite understandable, lack of anatomical knowledge.

Sometimes depending on the situation. Preferably when the train is almost empty.

If there isn't many people around, who cares?
If people start coming in, then slim down your profile. Pretty simple

Weird what some people complain about!
I notice the picture with the woman next to a man has her legs spread also.
If you are not depriving someone of a seat, does it really matter?!

If someone is blocking the seats, just say excuse me and many would probably comply. If not, you have three options:

Find another seat
Stand in the train
Kick them in the nuts
