Do you ever doubt what you hear ?

So, basically, I want to know how confident you are of what other people tell you, via whatever method, be it TV, word of mouth, internet, etc. Do you doubt what you hear ?

You need a new option "it depends on who is telling me". You have to think of what is being said and by whom and make a value judgment as to whether they're lying and if so, why.

What kind of answer do you expect?

We have been taught to be critical, so we are critical. Others have been taught to be obedient, so they were obedient.
Nowaday it just suits being critical.
Nothing to be proud of: parroting just different things/words/attitudes...without investing to much of effort (its not supposed to hurd)

All the time, except when I'm talking to myself. Then I believe every word.

Not here in the states. Critical thinking is quite suppressed here, after all whats the use in having a population with critical thinking skills? How then would the people in power continue on their lies? The education sys here in the USA is solely based on an outdated system (industrial revolution), where critical skills are hardly if ever emphasized. Well, maybe just a little. Just enough thinking to work the machines, nothing else. Hrmm, where have I "heard" that one before? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acLW1...eature=related

Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo-QIY7ys-k

As far as I'm concerned and I think I have said this before, but comedians are truly the last bastion of truth available. I do watch some news, but thats only international version of CNN, and BBC World, and of course I always try to think and question what I have heard/read before making my own conclusion, which is kinda impossible to do if you watch 'foxnews' when everything is pre-decided/shoved down your throats. (Why I never could associate news with fox)

[edit]

Of course I also have other news alternatives, such as ap/reuters/al-jazeera/xinhua/etc.

I dunno, just a percentage or level of doubt about what others say. I mean, it just seems to me many people simply hear about something then instantly believe it without ever doubting or thinking.

People are taught to be critical ? Where are you from ? I wanna move there.

Anyway, I don't expect accurate or meaningful results, but you'll be surprised that sometimes some interesting things can be deduced.

Also, I want to know not if you think about what you hear, even tho this is important, I want a step before that, the step of doubting what you hear. Because, after all, you can't think properly about what you hear unless you first doubt what you hear ... otherwise what reason wound there be in thinking about it. They have already thought about it for you, they told you what you need to know, and they know what conclusion you will draw ... dare I say they injected the conclusion into your mind.

Oh, it most certainly does ... I mean that would be an accurate measure of the degree of insanity ... if you doubt the voices you would be less insane, but if you believe them then you might be dangerous.

You can believe everything I tell you because I'm absolutely honest. The only time I've told a lie (recently) is in the preceding sentence.

Yes, I admit it, please take to the padded room.

Well, actually, in the General forum, my posts are, a bit trollish at times. But, so are the rest of them, all these random rantings and stuff. I must indeed be insane to rant here.

Anyway, don't worry, you won't find me posting something like this in the other forums, those are Linux only. Sometimes, however, I do mention M$ and the evil empire there ...

As a general rule I take everything with a grain of salt. A given statement may be true, or it may not. In any case, I try to be logical and dispense with the drama.
