Digital Video in Linux?

Yet another thing I need to find in order to totally get away from Windows (aka Tha Devil). Anyone using Digital Video (capture, edit, transfer, etc) in Linux? If so, what capture cards and software are you using to do this?

Thanks again!

Dang guys!! Thanks!! Slowly but surely I'm finding replacements for all those Windows apps!! WOO HOO!

And, a side note...this has to be the best forum (aside from the one I admin - not a Linux forum) that I've become a part of. Fast, friendly and helpful replies to all my posts!! Way too many forums out there get mad at "newbie" questions...glad to see friendlies in this crowd.

I admin our State Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am and Corvette club forum. It's www.scfyb.com/phpBB2

My friend built it and set it all up, but he was recently killed in a car accident; so I've taken his place.

If you have on of or just like these cars, you should join up...we're all good people. South Carolina F&Y Bodies.

Thanks man

Well in my local Linux Users Group ( http://www.taclug.org ) the President (Chuck Wolber) is lead developer on a project called WebVCR+ ( http://webvcrplus.sourceforge.net/ ) and he seems to like the hauppage capture cards for Linux.

I talked with him recently about setting up a computer (Like Tivo) to record television shows and burn them onto DVDs

For Video editing on Linux, there are several excellent programs:

MainActor - Easy to use and works well (comes with SuSE Linux) but it is commercial otherwise. :(

Cinerella
http://heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php3 great software!

Kino
http://kino.schirmacher.de/ I forgot about this one, but it's great also.
