Digital Displays VS Analogue

Hello again all,

Ok I have question regarding CRT versing digital displays like LCD. What I would like to know is, why is CRT classed as analogue and LCD classed as digital. I do understand the term "digital vs analogue". As in an analogue clock (one with hands) vs an LCD watch. But what I would like to know is what physically makes CRT analogue and LCD digital?

From what I understand (and I can be totally wrong) Analog displays recieve a constant dtream of analog singal telling what pixel color should be on
So for example the signal would look like this RRRGGBBBBBBBRGRGRBBBBRBRBBGGGRBBBRG and it would continuosly get that signal and "draw" the image line by line when it reaches the bottom is starts redrawing the image again from top to bottom (Which is why if you watch the news and you see a computer screen in the bacground you see the bars moving down the screen thats the monitor refreshing) LCD's can recieve a digital signal which tells it what pizels need to be On and Off the signal from what I understand is like a compressed analog singal which is why we are able to have high def imagery and TV shows and why there is more features on digital cable. The signal would look like 3G4B2R6G etc.... see smaller amount of data. If I understand LCD's correctly enough they don't actually redraw the image.they turn on and off the pixels that they need to thus the response time. Those that have a slow response time cannot turn off the pixels and then turn on the new colors quick enough which results in ghosting.

I can be completely wrong this is what I learned from the RCA lab (Now and even then was called Sarnoff) in princeton back in 1996 when they were working on HDTV.

LCD is a digitally controlled maxtrix display. CRT is an analogue controlled beamshooter.

To prove it,

analogue displays(analogue anything really) are usually adversely affected by magnetic interference.

Rub a magnet against a CRT.

Now rub a magnet against a LCD.
