crc error

can anyone be so kind to tell what "crc error" means
I get the error when booting HAL91 from a floppy

thanks

CRC stands for Cyclic Redundancy Check - its a method of error detection. What it means is that there is an error on your floppy which is being picked up when the CRC is calculated. You'll want to get a new floppy.

PS - I've closed your other thread that asked the same question. You normally only want to post a question in one place - by doing so you'll often get more/better answers as people will see other's responses to your questions and add to them.

PPS - also just noticed its crossed with http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...&threadid=5322

I get crc errors on certain setup files i download from the net... I think its my isp or something because other people with the same isp have the same problems, but some dont. I wish i knew what it was, its really annoying. any suggestions?

If your ISP is running a transparent cache of somekind for web traffic, and this cache is corrupting the odd file then it might be worth using an FTP download instead of HTTP, if the option is available to you. Apart from that, if it is transparent caching then there is very little you can do apart from moan at their tech support.

cheers

I dont know if they run a transparent cache or whatever. But i've tryed both FTP and HTTP downloads for certain setup files like winamp, flash 5,imesh. Things like that...oh well, thanks
