cpu scaling gui

Is there not yet a gui for cpufreq or some such? Even a new experimental program?

I would rather take my chances borking my system with a util that someone hoped /thought they knew what they were doing than trash it myself messing with settings that I dont understand from a command line .

Mind you it isnt sheer laziness on my part only partly,

Looking in my pkg manager there are a couple of cpufreq_this and _that things installed, but when I use command line to look in /<path>/cpu0 and cpu1 I dont see any cpufreq files or directories. Maybe the tutorials I have been looking at are outdated or dont apply to my distro.

Any ideas and help is much appreciated, Thank you,

There's a little panel applet that comes with GNOME. This is the guy who wrote it: http://carlosgc.linups.org/

You could try vcpufreq.
Its a CPU frequency manager written in Gambas and aimed for use with VectorLinux, but I'm sure you can use it with any other distro as well:

I use it for my laptop to keep the CPU frequency to a minimum when idle, helps save some battery juice.

Thanks,

Should Ark extract the tlz file? Ark is complaining but goes ahead upon my prompt.

I downloaded and installed LZMD and it seems to do its thing ok with the vcpu**.tlz but afterwards I havent been able to cause anything to happen with the extracted vcpu** file either from Ark or LMZD. No matter wich way I hold my tounge I get nothing to happen with ./ or make or install or chmod a+x or just invoking the filename.

Because its made for Slack do I need to find a different way to invoke/cause the vcpu** file to do its thing and install?

Thanks very much,

I'm not sure what package management tools Ark uses, because that .tlz file is an LZMA compressed package.
Ark is Slackware based right? If so, I can send you a .tgz version of vcpufreq and that should work on your system.
Also make sure you install the Gambas runtime on your box before installing vcpufreq.
